First, it is important to understand that this creature was named for its similarity to the monster of legend, not the other way around. Stories about vampires pre-date the actual creatures by a significant margin.

Vampires first came into being during the early First Chaotic Period, and were created by the mage Rubiceye during one of his early attempts to perfect Necromancy.
